Chiropractor Downtown Dubai

If you are looking for a chiropractor Downtown Dubai, there is probably a reason you started searching. Maybe your lower back has been bothering you at work, your neck is getting increasingly stiff, or you have had the same problem coming and going for months and finally decided to do something about it.
After more than 15 years in chiropractic, I have seen this thousands of times. Most people don’t come in when a problem first starts. Usually they manage it for a while, change a few things, wait for it to settle down and get on with life.
Sometimes that works. Other times the problem keeps coming back. The back that has felt tight for years suddenly locks up getting out of the car, or the neck that has gradually become stiffer reaches the point where turning your head while driving becomes difficult. Often the problem has been there much longer than the pain.
At ONE Chiropractic Studio, our clinic is actually in Platinum Tower in JLT, not Downtown Dubai. We have patients who travel to us from all over Dubai, including Downtown, because when it comes to healthcare, being the closest isn’t always the most important thing. Finding someone you trust and whose approach makes sense to you matters too.

Your Body Is Designed to Move

One of the things that originally attracted me to chiropractic was how much sense the basic philosophy made. We are designed to move, yet the way most of us live now involves surprisingly little movement.
Think about a normal day in Dubai. You drive to work, sit at a desk for most of the day, drive home and then sit again. Even people who train regularly can spend eight or ten hours sitting before going into the gym and expecting their body to suddenly lift, rotate, run and move properly.
We see this all the time. Someone tells us their back started hurting when they played padel, lifted a weight or picked up their child, and naturally they blame that movement. Sometimes they are right, but I am also interested in what their body was doing during the rest of the day.
The human body adapts extremely well to what we repeatedly ask it to do. If you move regularly, it adapts to movement. If you spend years sitting for most of the day, it adapts to that as well.

Pain Isn't Always Where the Story Starts

People often assume that if nothing hurts, everything must be working properly. In practice, you see people compensate for things for years before they ever consider them to be a problem.
Maybe your neck hasn’t turned properly to one side for a long time, or one hip has always felt tighter than the other. Maybe you stopped doing a particular exercise because it never felt quite right. None of these things necessarily stop you living your life, so you find ways around them.
Then one day your back hurts and it feels like the problem started that morning. Sometimes it did, but sometimes that was simply the first time you felt pain from something that had been changing for much longer.
When someone comes into ONE with lower back pain, we obviously want to know about the pain, but we also want to know what has been happening around it. We ask about work, training, previous injuries, how much you move and what you have stopped doing because of the problem. It gives us a much better picture of what is going on.

Chiropractic Is More Than Cracking Backs

Chiropractic still has this image of being mainly about cracking backs. Patients sometimes come in and tell me that they just need to be cracked, but the sound that can happen during an adjustment isn’t really what interests us.
What interests us is movement, the nervous system and function.
Your brain is constantly receiving information from your body. Every time you walk, turn your head, pick something up or play sport, information is travelling between your joints, muscles, spinal cord and brain. The spine is an important part of that process.
When areas of the spine aren’t moving or functioning properly, chiropractors sometimes describe this as vertebral subluxation. Chiropractic adjustments are used to improve movement and function in these areas and influence the sensory information the brain receives from the body.
The relationship between the spine and nervous system is one of the reasons I became so interested in chiropractic in the first place. Most patients initially come because they want to feel better, which is completely understandable, but there is more to chiropractic than simply treating a painful back.

Why Does It Keep Coming Back?

This is one of the questions I ask a lot.
Someone might have headaches several times a week, take a painkiller and feel better. There is nothing wrong with wanting the headache to go away, but if it keeps coming back every few days, it makes sense to look at what might be contributing to it.
The same happens with lower back pain. Someone hurts their back, rests for a few days and it improves. Six months later it happens again, then again the following year. Eventually they describe themselves as having a back that “goes out” once or twice a year.
At that point, I want to know why it keeps happening. There may be a straightforward explanation, or there may be several things contributing to it. Either way, looking at the person properly gives us much more information than simply focusing on where they happen to hurt that day.

Living and Working in Downtown Dubai

Downtown Dubai is a good example of how much modern life has changed the way we use our bodies. You can have a gym and swimming pool in your building and still spend the majority of your day sitting.
Everything is convenient. You take the lift downstairs, get into the car, drive to the office and spend most of the day at a computer. Food can be delivered to your door and almost everything we need can now be ordered without leaving the house.
There is nothing wrong with convenience, but it has removed a huge amount of everyday movement from our lives. Walking, bending, carrying things and regularly changing position used to happen naturally throughout the day. Now many of us have to make a conscious effort to put that movement back in.
Going to the gym is great, but it doesn’t completely undo a lifestyle where you barely move for the other ten or twelve waking hours. I would much rather see people move regularly throughout the day as well as exercise.

Don't Become Afraid of Your Back

Over the years I have seen a lot of people become frightened of movement because of something they have been told about their spine. They have an MRI showing disc degeneration or a disc bulge and suddenly they are scared to lift something, run or go back to the gym.
I don’t like seeing people become scared of their own bodies. Obviously there are injuries and conditions where activities need to be modified, and sometimes rest is necessary, but for most people the long-term goal should be to become more capable rather than less capable.
If you love tennis, I want you playing tennis. If you enjoy lifting weights, I want you to be able to train. If you have young children, being able to get down on the floor, pick them up and play with them is important.
These are often the things patients actually care about. They aren’t necessarily interested in having a perfect spine. They want their body to allow them to live normally again.

Your First Visit at ONE

Your first visit starts with us finding out what has brought you in and what has been happening. We want to know how long the problem has been there, what makes it better or worse, what you do for work, how active you are and what you would like to get back to doing.
We then assess you based on what you have told us. This may include looking at your spinal movement, posture and relevant orthopaedic and neurological findings. What we examine depends on the person and why they have come in.
Not everyone who comes through our doors needs chiropractic care. If we think you should see another healthcare professional or have further investigation first, we will tell you.

How Many Chiropractic Sessions Will I Need?

This is one of the most common questions we get, and it is impossible to give everyone the same answer. Someone who developed a stiff neck three days ago is very different from someone who has had lower back problems for the last 15 years.
Your age, history, examination findings, lifestyle and what you want to achieve all play a role. Someone who wants to get back to competitive sport may also have very different goals from someone who simply wants to sit comfortably at work.
At ONE, we go through our recommendations at your second visit. This gives us time to properly consider what we found during your first appointment and explain what we recommend, how frequently we recommend seeing you and what we are trying to achieve.

Chiropractic During Pregnancy and for Children

The people we see in the studio can be very different. In the same day we might see someone who trains six days a week, someone in their seventies, a pregnant woman and a young child.
Naturally, we don’t approach all of these people in the same way. Dr Charlotte has a particular interest in pregnancy, babies and children, and the techniques used for babies and young children are very different from those typically used with adults.
Chiropractic care should always be adapted to the individual. Their age, size, health history and what we find during the assessment all matter.

Why Come From Downtown Dubai to JLT?

If you live in Downtown Dubai and there is a great chiropractor close to you who you trust, there is no reason you shouldn’t go there. We don’t expect everyone in Dubai to travel to JLT to see us.
At the same time, we have always found that people will travel for healthcare when they find someone they are comfortable with. Most of us already do this with dentists, doctors, personal trainers and other professionals rather than changing every time somebody closer opens.
ONE Chiropractic Studio is located at Unit 1709, Platinum Tower, Cluster I, Jumeirah Lake Towers. We have RTA parking outside the tower and are close to DMCC Metro Station.
If you came across this page while searching for a chiropractor Downtown Dubai, have a look through our website and read about the way we approach chiropractic. If it sounds like the type of care you are looking for, JLT isn’t very far away.

Looking After Your Spine

I have spent most of my life around sport, movement and chiropractic, and one thing I have noticed is how quickly we take normal movement for granted.
You don’t think about being able to turn your neck until you suddenly can’t do it. You don’t appreciate getting out of bed without thinking about your back until it starts hurting every morning. The same applies to training, travelling, working and playing with your children.
Looking after your body isn’t only about trying to avoid pain. It is about being able to continue doing the things you want to do for as long as possible.

Chiropractor Downtown Dubai FAQs

  • Is ONE Chiropractic Studio in Downtown Dubai?

No. ONE Chiropractic Studio is located in Platinum Tower, Cluster I, JLT. We see patients from many parts of Dubai, including people who live and work in Downtown Dubai.

  • Why would I travel from Downtown Dubai to JLT for a chiropractor?

You don’t necessarily need to. If you have a chiropractor close to home who you trust and whose approach suits you, that may be the right option. People who travel to ONE generally do so because they like our approach to chiropractic and want to see our team.

  • What do chiropractors commonly see?

People commonly visit chiropractors with lower back pain, neck pain, headaches, sciatica, stiffness and other musculoskeletal problems. Whether chiropractic is suitable for you depends on what is causing the problem and what we find during your assessment.

  • Is chiropractic only for back pain?

No. Back and neck pain are common reasons people first visit a chiropractor, but chiropractic also looks at spinal movement and function and the relationship between the spine and nervous system.

  • Can chiropractic help with posture?

Chiropractic may be part of an approach to improving spinal mobility and posture. We also look at movement, strength, working habits and lifestyle because posture isn’t something that should be approached through adjustments alone.

  • Where is ONE Chiropractic Studio?

ONE Chiropractic Studio is located at Unit 1709, Platinum Tower, Cluster I, Jumeirah Lake Towers, Dubai, close to DMCC Metro Station with RTA parking available outside the building.

  • Can a chiropractor help with headaches?

Some headaches can have a cervical or musculoskeletal component and may respond to appropriate care. Headaches can also have many other causes, so assessment is important and we refer for further medical investigation when appropriate.

  • Do I need to be in pain to see a chiropractor?

No. Some people come because they are in pain, while others come because they feel stiff, have noticed changes in their mobility or want to look after their spinal function while staying active.

  • How many chiropractic sessions will I need?

This depends on your history, examination findings, lifestyle and goals. At ONE Chiropractic Studio, we explain our recommended plan of care at your second visit after we have had time to properly consider the findings from your initial appointment.

  • Can I see a chiropractor while pregnant?

Yes, when chiropractic care is appropriate for you. Techniques can be modified during pregnancy, and Dr Charlotte has a particular interest in pregnancy and family chiropractic.

  • Can babies and children see a chiropractor?

Yes. The techniques used with babies and children are adapted for their age, size and stage of development and are very different from the adjustments commonly used with adults.

  • Do I need a referral to see a chiropractor?

Usually not. You can book directly with ONE Chiropractic Studio. If you plan to claim through insurance, check your policy because reimbursement requirements vary between insurers.
